Sleeper

Transparency

Transparency

Sleeper’s products are manufactured in responsibly-operated facilities in Ukraine, Kyiv. Sleeper has a comprehensive Partnership and Suppliers Sustainability Policy in place, which provides a framework for the protection of workers rights and the environment, outlines the principles of responsible production, responsible consumption and ethical business principles by which the brand strives to operate. Sleeper works with a small number of fabric suppliers, which allows the team at Sleeper to ensure suppliers abide by their responsibility and quality standards. The brand works with certified fabric makers only to guarantee all products are safe to wear and responsibly made. In terms of disclosure of the material composition of products, Sleeper provides a list of materials in use across all product pages.

Emissions

Emissions

Every Sleeper piece is hand-crafted by a single artisan with the minimal involvement of machinery which helps in reducing the carbon footprint of garments. Sleeper is proactive at producing exactly as many clothes as they can sell. In addition, the brand uses fabric scraps to make the linen sacks which are used for the packaging, hair bands, belts, etc. Remaining unused scraps are used/donated to children learning how to sew, as an initiative of the brand. In addition, the brand holds a sample sale twice a year, showcasing and selling defective items and samples of clothes. In alignment with its goal to minimize the amount of waste that goes to landfill, Sleeper established a partnership with consignment platform the Real Real in 2020. This partnership is one of the ways in which Sleeper is managing excess stock.

Water Management

We are still exploring how we can work with Sleeper to evaluate and manage their water footprint.

Materials

Materials

Approximately 90% of Sleeper garments are made of 100% natural fibers (linen, cotton, silk, viscose, EcoVero Rayon). Sleeper supports and embraces slow fashion - the brand is committed to creating pieces that will last for years. Sleeper prioritizes recycled fabrics, using GRS-certified recycled polyester for several styles. Sleeper does not use virgin polyester in their production.

Workers’ Rights

Workers’ Rights

100% of Sleeper’s production takes place in Ukraine, which ensures the rights of workers are protected by EU labour legislation. Sleeper maintains close relationships with all suppliers and production partners at large. In addition, all workers are paid above living wages.

Waste and Chemicals

Waste and Chemicals

Sleeper is proactive at managing waste in its production facilities as per its business model - everything is made to order. In addition, all leftover (fabric) waste is used for packaging and complimentary accessories such as belts and ribbons - to ensure minimal waste production. Sleeper requires its suppliers to provide chemical compliance statements of materials, test reports, and safety certifications.

Animal Welfare

Animal Welfare

Sleeper only works with suppliers that can guarantee the ethical treatment of animals by means of certifications. Sleeper is able to guarantee (by means of certifications) that none of the animal-derived materials used in its products come from animals exclusively slaughtered for their skin, shell, horn, bone, feather or down.

Biodiversity and Forestry

Biodiversity and Forestry

We are still exploring how we can work with Sleeper to advance our shared goal of protecting endangered species and forests.

Ethos

Ethos

As per Sleeper’s goal to promote responsible consumption, and embody a responsible production model that allows them to close the loop, the brand encourages shoppers to follow 5 rules: Refuse or Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rot. In addition, Sleeper promotes responsible consumption by designing timeless pieces. The brand is proactive at rethinking classics which will never go out of style.
