Transparency
Rahua’s approach to transparency is comprehensive as it covers both social and environmental aspects. Environmentally speaking, the brand has a robust protocol in place that allows them to scrutinize all ingredients and their origin. All products are processed under strict protocols, and labs and manufacturing facilities are safe, clean and certified as USDA organic facilities. Additionally, all products are traceable through each production stage, all the way back to raw materials. In terms of the social aspects of Rahua’s transparency efforts, the brand works proactively to guarantee fair and safe working conditions for workers along its supply chain, as well preventing any potential human rights abuses by maintaining close relationships and constant communication with suppliers.
Emissions
Rahua is currently sequestering approximately 900,000 tons of carbon annually by supporting the preservation of 180,000 acres of the Amazon Rainforest. The brand is proactive at communicating with shoppers about its 1 Bottle 1 Acre program that advises how they can contribute to the reduction and preservation of the Amazon Rainforest. Rahua operates in alignment with the goals of the Paris Agreement and is committed to supporting the global transition to low-carbon transport by giving preference to low-carbon logistics. The brand is also committed to continuously pursue energy efficiency measures and renewable energy in its value chain.
Water Management
Rahua’s non-toxic, clean formulas prevent pollution of our waterways.
Materials
The team at Rahua works alongside the Indigenous People of the Amazon to gather rainforest grown ingredients only from self-sustained forests. The brand’s promise is to never harvest non-regenerative rainforest ingredients.
Workers’ Rights
All of Rahua’s products are made in the US which ensures workers are protected by US legislation. Additionally, Rahua pays above fair trade prices to its indigenous partners at the Amazon Rainforest, who help source ingredients for the brand. Lastly, Rahua has several initiatives in place to help workers living in the Amazon Rainforest create and sustain an economy based on preserving their traditions i.e.: by sourcing ingredients using traditionally tribal methods.
Waste and Chemicals
Rahua uses #1 PET which is 100% recyclable, recycled worldwide and reused to make everything from park benches, designer carpets, clothing and more. Rahua’s potent plant-derived, organic ingredients create high-performance, concentrated formulas which require less usage by shoppers (than synthetic formulas), thus minimizing consumption per bottle, which ultimately leads to a reduction in packaging created and used.
Animal Welfare
Rahua operates with the utmost respect for life in all its forms. No animal testing is conducted for Rahua’s products.
Biodiversity and Forestry
Rahua is a Symbiotic certified brand. The stringent rules and regulations for Symbiotic Certification are aimed to preserve and guarantee the existence of healthy forests, healthy ancient cultures, and the World’s first medicinal plant source. Rahua works in partnership with EcoAgents to protect endangered species and their habitats by funding a portion of proceeds from its Enchanted Island Collection to support coastline cleanup efforts in the Galapagos Islands. Additionally, Rahua prioritizes sourcing organic ingredients as much as possible to help reduce reliance on pesticides. The brand’s use of plant-based ingredients eliminates the risk of toxic run-off and sea pollution from its operated facilities.
Ethos
Rahua is consistently helping shoppers plan and make conscious purchasing decisions ahead of the point of purchase by offering guidance on hair and skin type-appropriate products, as well as ways of reducing post-consumer waste. The refill program initiative by Rahua reduces plastic usage by 90%.
