Responsibility
Responsibility
Transparency
Since Circumference sources plants from their native areas, they’re able to trace each ingredient to its origin and ensure they are cultivated and harvested to the highest standards. In addition, Circumference provides added visibility on their supply chain by displaying origin or ingredients on product pages. The brand’s approach to transparency involves a focus on supply chain traceability (for every ingredient in use they can provide a certificate of origins) and a focus on research and innovation (the team is working proactively to optimize its supply chain by developing partnerships across sectors to upcycle ingredients).
Emissions
Circumference’s initiatives to minimize its carbon footprint are focused on creating environmental efficiencies primarily via its innovative and responsible sourcing methods. Another focus area for the brand is managing waste from packaging, for which they’re currently developing a packaging recycling program. In addition, the team at Circumference understands the importance of measuring in order to improve, and so they are currently researching the best viable options for a carbon measurement and offsetting partner that aligns with their goals and values. In the meantime, the brand is committed to never using single-use plastic and prioritizing recyclable materials for all containers and packaging.
Water Management
Circumference’s suppliers utilize an innovative water filtration system that allows for water to be returned into nature cleaner than when it first came into contact with their operations. Similarly to their approach to managing carbon emissions, Circumference is taking a research-first approach before launching any initiatives. For instance, they’re currently evaluating the extent of water saving during sourcing (via their upcycling sourcing model). Additionally, Circumference’s suppliers are proactively working to reduce their water footprint by using technology that significantly reduces water consumption.
Materials
Circumference’s “Waste-Not Ingredient” sourcing model, currently providing 12-20% of ingredients that the brand uses in its formulations - is driven by innovation and focused on creating capabilities to eventually close the loop. Since 2020, the brand has been working on establishing cross-sector partnerships i.e.: with independent agricultural producers (and other partners in the food industry) - to upcycle their byproducts as ingredients that would otherwise go to waste. Furthermore, as an innovation-oriented brand, Circumference is constantly looking out for the latest research on ingredients and reviews/adjusts formulations as new information comes to light.
Workers’ Rights
Circumference is committed to a business model that strengthens fair practices and better working conditions for everyone involved in their supply chain. The team at Circumference is on a mission to support independent producers, suppliers, and farmers using fair practices that make it financially viable for them to continue. Circumference will continue to abide by the highest standards of US workers rights regulations and will remain truthful to its social responsibility priorities, which emphasize fair working conditions for everyone involved in their supply chain and business operations. Another priority of Circumference is ensuring safe working conditions in its manufacturing facilities, which they ensure by vetting every supplier that they choose to work with and maintaining close relationships with them.
Waste and Chemicals
No hazardous chemicals are involved in the production of Circumference’s products. In terms of waste from packaging, as an innovation-oriented brand, Circumference understands that recycled, recyclable and biodegradable packaging is just the beginning. The brand is currently researching alternative solutions such as bioplastics and mycelium-based packages. The brand is committed to testing these packaging solutions against skincare and beauty products without sacrificing the efficacy, safety, or stability of its products. In terms of waste generated during the sourcing and production stages, Circumference works with suppliers that are proactively addressing waste management by optimizing their processes.
Animal Welfare
Circumference is committed to the protection of animal rights and does not use any animal-derived ingredients in its formulations. In addition the brand does not test on animals.
Biodiversity and Forestry
We are still exploring how we can work with Circumference to advance our shared goal of protecting endangered species and forests.
Ethos
Circumference is committed to promoting responsible consumption amongst shoppers and is proactive at embracing ethical marketing and transparency practices on their social media platforms and website, where all sourcing and manufacturing information can be readily found. In addition, the brand is strongly focused on educating shoppers on the delivery system behind each ingredient, so that shoppers can make informed choices based on factual information.
