Why Are We Concerned About Biodiversity & Forestry?
Ecosystem degradation is wide ranging, affecting oceans, freshwater, soil and forests. Protecting biodiversity and forestry – the bees, seas and trees – within and beyond supply chains is a crucial high-level goal of responsibility.
Fashion supply chains are directly linked to soil degradation, conversion of natural ecosystems and waterway pollution. The beauty industry, too, has a role to play in reducing reliance on pesticides and aggressive crop production.
As a multi-brand platform, Toward is a facilitator. We aim to foster cross-brand collaboration and education, establishing biodiversity and forestry standards for suppliers that enable brands to push for more robust specifications, while suppliers benefit from economies of scale.
Toward will proactively encourage our brand partners in their efforts around biodiversity and forestry:
Scaling up the development of innovative materials and processes.
Leading the way in educating consumers.
Taking a strong stance against water pollution and pursuing zero waste status.
Supporting relevant organizations or initiatives, such as planting pollinator-friendly plants, protecting safe havens for bees, helping to reduce our reliance on pesticides, deforestation conservation and protecting endangered species and dying reefs.
